Instagram Money Calculator

Instagram doesn't pay per follower, so this calculator estimates what you could charge brands per sponsored post, using a formula you can see and change.
%

Use our engagement rate calculator if you don't know it.

%

What you consider typical for accounts like yours.

$

An assumption you set; see the guide below.

Price per post (range)

$187.50 – $312.50

Middle: $250.00

Engagement adjustment

× 1.00

Your rate ÷ benchmark, kept between 0.25 and 3

Per month (middle)

$500.00

2 posts × $250.00

How this is calculated

Base = followers ÷ 1,000 × base rate. Middle price = base × (your engagement rate ÷ benchmark). The range is ±25% around the middle.

Instagram doesn't pay per follower: brands negotiate prices. This turns your own assumptions into a starting quote; it isn't a market rate.

How to use it

  1. Enter your follower count and your engagement rate. If you don't know it, work it out first with the engagement rate calculator.
  2. Set a benchmark engagement rate: what you consider normal for accounts of your size and niche. If your rate is above it, the price goes up; below it, the price goes down.
  3. Choose a base rate per 1,000 followers. This is the assumption that matters most, so start from real quotes you've given or received, and adjust.
  4. Add how many sponsored posts you expect per month to see a monthly figure.

How Instagram creators actually earn

Most Instagram income doesn't come from Instagram itself. The main sources are:

  • Brand partnerships: a company pays you to create and post content. Prices are negotiated, which is what this calculator helps with.
  • Affiliate links and codes: you earn a commission on sales you drive.
  • Subscriptions and gifts: Instagram offers features such as subscriptions and gifts on Reels in some countries; eligibility and availability vary, so check Instagram's Professional Dashboard.
  • Your own products: courses, presets, merchandise or services.

Because brand deals are private negotiations, there is no official “rate card”. Lists of “average prices per follower” that circulate online usually come from agency marketing and vary widely, so we don't bake one into the calculator. Instead you provide your own base rate and the tool keeps the maths consistent.

The formula

Base price = followers ÷ 1,000 × base rate
Engagement factor = your engagement rate ÷ benchmark (limited to 0.25–3)
Middle price = base price × engagement factor; range = middle ± 25%

The engagement factor captures what brands really pay for: attention. An account with fewer followers but more active ones can justify a higher price than a larger account people scroll past. The cap stops a single outlier post from producing an absurd price.

Worked examples

Example 1. 25,000 followers, base rate $10 per 1,000, engagement 3% against a 3% benchmark. Base = 25 × $10 = $250; factor = 1.0; middle price $250, range $187.50–$312.50. Two posts a month is about $500.

Example 2. 8,000 followers with a 6% engagement rate, the same $10 base and 3% benchmark. Base = $80; factor = 2.0; middle price $160. The smaller account earns two-thirds of the larger one's price with a third of the followers, because its audience engages twice as much.

What else changes the price

  • Format: a Reel, a carousel, a set of Stories and a static post take different effort and reach different people.
  • Usage rights: if the brand wants to run your content as an ad or use it on its own channels, charge extra and set a time limit.
  • Exclusivity: agreeing not to work with competitors for a period has a cost to you.
  • Deliverables and revisions: scripts, approvals and reshoots add hours.
  • Audience fit and location: a niche, buying-ready audience in the brand's market is worth more.

Whatever you agree, label paid content clearly. Instagram provides a Paid partnership label, and advertising rules in many countries require disclosure. If you're in the US, the FTC's Disclosures 101 for social media influencers is a clear summary.

Frequently asked questions

Does Instagram pay you for followers or views?

Not directly per follower. Instagram has some monetisation features in some countries, but most creator income comes from brand deals, affiliate commissions and selling your own products.

How much should I charge for a sponsored post?

Start from your follower count and engagement, then adjust for format, usage rights, exclusivity and the work involved. This calculator gives you a consistent starting quote; your past deals are the best guide.

What is a good engagement rate on Instagram?

It varies with account size and niche, and depends on how you calculate it. Compare yourself with similar accounts using the same method. Our engagement rate guide explains the options.

Why is there a cap on the engagement factor?

To stop one viral post or a tiny follower count from producing an unrealistic price. Between 0.25× and 3× covers most real situations.

Is this calculator affiliated with Instagram?

No. It's an independent tool and doesn't connect to your account.
